Voyage De La Vie ~  ~~ When I attended the media call for "Voyage de la Vie" (meaning "Journey of Life") a couple of weeks back, I was unsure if the show would live up to the hype that had been circulating around because reviews mentioned that the production was not that good while some said it was worth watching. But since I had the opportunity to watch this circus theatre spectacular with the family, I decided not to miss it. ~ This play is a story of a boy’s (Jonathan Leong) metaphoric journey of Life and his encounters with Love, Temptation, Imagination, Conflict, Life and Death. ~ Before the show official started, two members of the casts entertained the audience with funny acts together with some magic. Moments later, the show started off with Jonathan singing and some of the cast members dancing while holding a briefcase which reminded me so much of Lady Gaga's MV. ~ 'The Boy' then met 'The Game Master' (Alexey Goloborodko), an enigmatic being who brought him into a world of wonder. Guided by the mysterious 'Lantern Keeper' (Viktor Kee), the Boy meets other colourful characters like the illusional duo 'Maestro & Magician' (Jarrett & Raja), the seductive 'Diva' (Melanie Chy), the charming 'Crystal Cat' (Aurelia Cats), the graceful 'Life' (Liina Aunola) and the sinister 'Death' (Martti Peltonen). ~ The act that really made me sit up and take notice was French acrobat Aurelia Cat's trapeze act, which at one point saw her balancing precariously, upside down from the theatre ceiling, with only her feet on the trapeze. Another act worth mentioning is Finnish rope aerialist Liina Aunola's graceful movements on the Cloudswing – a swing several metres off the ground – and a simple rope, which drew thunderous applause from the audience. However, it looked pretty scary because she want swinging at lightning speed, you too would be worried for her safety despite it being her profession. ~ The other acts such as Ukrainian master juggler Kee's juggling routine made it all so easy. His act was just too perfect. thumbs up! Not forgetting the young contortionist who hid in a small box at the beginning of the show when Jonathan received a package really surprised everyone. How did he managed to squeeze "comfortably" in that box you must wonder? In fact, I was a little freaked out by his extreme flexibility and seemingly boneless body. He was like a very skinny rubber boy with no stomach and intestines. I'm not exaggerating. ~ All in all, I must say that it was quite interesting to watch but I don't think I'll watch it a second time? 3.5 out of 5 poppycorns for me.~ ~ Alright, I shan't expose too much information on the show.
