A Sunday sharing,

Law of the Garbage Truck
~
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
~
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
~
Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

(life is filled with many wonders)
Being the last day of attachment, I left the house for work earlier. Hoping to reach office before the "crowd" comes. I even prayed hard that the office door would be open when I reach the office and also that I would have a seat in the train so that no one would accidentally knock over the 2boxes of 'The Ng's Family Famous Cheesecake'.
Thank goodness my prayers were answered!
I quickly placed the boxes of cheesecake into the fridge and settled down for work without letting anyone know of the surprises installed for them.
~
By about 9.20am, I took out a cloth bag that carried the DIY frame I did for my department, and got one of my supervisors to open it. As they were engrossed with the DIY, I quickly made my way to the pantry to take out the cheesecakes from the fridge and surprised them for the second time. Had the help of one of my supervisors in being my personal photographer cum cake distributor as I went round giving everyone 'The Ng's Family Famous Cheesecake'.

I'll miss the homecooked porridge, laksa, cakes and puffs.
~
Months back I would grumble everyday, wishing that attachment would just end quickly but when the days were nearing, I wished it never had to end because leaving these great people who have taught me so much was the saddest.
It was these people who made me want to go to work everyday.
If it wasn't for them and especially the two supervisors beside me, IAP wouldn't be as fun.
~
~
~
my supervisors surprised me with a bouquet of flowers and a handmade card they did.
Touched!
~
A unique bunch(:
~
they blend in so well together...

Another surprise:
Chocolate Cake from the Technical Department(:

I had to take one with the cleaner uncle.
I told one of my supervisor that he is so cute with his shades and moustache.

(to love you, in sickness and in health and all the days of my life...)
9th August 2009 is not only the nation's 44th birthday but another happy occasion for YOU family as it was his brother's Wedding.
~
The day started early as the groom and brothers prepared to make their way to the bride's side for the gate crashing. And I must say, the sabo games planned by the bride's jie mei men were 498595748574x more evil as compared to my sister's. So you see how well-treated my jie fu was then!
~
~
First of all, the groom was not only NOT allowed to use the lifts, he was also NOT allowed to use his legs to walk up to the bride's house. So that means, the brothers had to carry him up all the way up to the 13th FLOOR!!! And guess who had to video the proof down...ME! (in a dress and with heels) Now you see why I don't wear dresses and heels. I can't last in those for a day.Eeeekss.
~
The sabo games ranged from writing down love notes to composing and singing a love song as loud as possible for the bride to hear while wearing bikinis, and to eating rubbish food like...
~
Eno with chocolate (as shown below), Bittergourd with extra bitterness (a cream meant for children to prevent them from biting their nails was applied), a slice of ginger with chili padi and wasabi. The boys were in "tears" with lips as red as cherry tomatoes. Poor thing...
~
After finally completing the sabo games and giving the red packet to the jie mei men, the bride was ready to be received by the groom. Family shots were taken as well before heading back to the groom's house for the tea ceremony, makaned and rested a little before making our way to Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace for the Solemnization ceremony which commenced at 2pm.

The groom and brothers were smartly dressed in their Number 1 uniforms and the coolest part during the ceremony was the sword bearers. Well, you don't see them in every wedding, do you.

~
~
~

~
The Solemnization lasted about an hour followed by a light refreshment at the Church canteen.
Then it was another round of tea ceremony where the bride changed into a light pink Peranakan bagu. Simply chantek!

As we had a schedule to meet, all had to get ready for the Wedding Dinner which was held at Orchid Country Club's Grand Ballroom. The food was not bad except that the fish dish was quite bland. The dinner ended well with a touching performance by one of the couple's good friend who played the Pipa.
~
I missed the sword bearers march-in and Wedding Montage yet again (becoz I was helping out in the reception area)

A few shots taken during the dinner...

p/s - will post up more when I have those taken by the professional photographer(:

(still in the peranakan blood)
Today marks grandma's last prayer offering since her passing on.
We had to be at the temple much earlier as the prayer was going to last longer as compared to the previous weeks.
Upon reaching the temple, we were welcomed by a 10ft tall paper house that my uncle bought. It had two pavilions with a table and 2 chairs at each end (I presume they are for my grandparents), two servants, a car with a chauffeur, a trishaw + trishaw rider as well as many rooms.
All of us took turns to put paper money and nuggets into the different paper windows while the remains would be thrown and scattered when it is time to burn the whole house.

look how big it is!

~

~
After the usual prayer by the Monk, we all helped to carry the paper house and bags of paper money and boxes of paper clothes to the temple next door which had a place specially for the burning procession to take place.

~

~
Surrounding the house with the remaining paper money, nuggets and taxes
~
We were then given each a joss stick, say our last prayer and slot it onto the house before burning

~
We were told to call out to grandma to take everything that we were burning for her

~
then the heat became really HOT!

too HOT, we had to stand back

~
Not long after that, we had to face our backs to the burning house and not look back because according to the Chinese belief.. if we were to look back, our soul might get trap. So we made our way back where my grandmother's tablet was being put up onto one of the shelves.

"its only on these occassions, it brings a full family closer."
